NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING Pursuant to Michigan Public Act 110 of 2006, as amended (the Michigan Zoning Enabling Act), the City of Lake Angelus Zoning Board of Appeals will hold a public hearing at its regular meeting on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. at the Lake Angelus City Hall, 45 Gallogly Rd., Lake Angelus, MI 48326. The purpose of the hearing is to take public comments on two variance applications submitted by Iman Francis involving the property located at 708 Lake Angelus Shores. The requested variances involve a proposal to relocate an existing boathouse in accordance with a permit obtained from the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE). The variances are described as follows: 1. The proposal calls for removal of an existing concrete wall and shifting a boatwell 7.5 feet landward, which will involve excavation of the shoreline and lake bottom. A variance from Section 1248.03(c)(2)(A)(5) is required, because this Section prohibits this type of activity, which will materially change the existing character of the lakeshore. 2. The proposal also calls for relocation of an existing boathouse 7.5 feet landward. The boathouse is a nonconforming structure because it is not a principal permitted use, accessory use, or special use in the Residential District. Thus, a variance from Section 1260.04(c) is required, which indicates that if a nonconforming structure is moved it must thereafter conform to the zoning ordinance. Interested people are invited to attend the public hearing and offer comments or submit written comments to the Zoning Board of Appeals prior to the meeting at the address noted above. Additional information may be obtained by contacting the City Clerk Sarah McNew Razzaque at (248) 332-3916.
