PUBLIC NOTICE MICHIGAN DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENT, GREAT LAKES, AND ENERGY NOTICE OF RECEIPT OF APPLICATION FOR A CONSTRUCTION PERMIT FOR A NEW SOLID WASTE PROCESSING AND TRANSFER FACILITY The Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) has received a construction permit application from Christensen Disposal for a new Processing and Transfer Facility to be located at 5351 Williams Lake Road, Waterford Township, Oakland County, Michigan. This notice is being issued pursuant to MCL 324.11510(2)(b) to provide for a public review and comment period for the application. The applicant is proposing the construction of a 7,000 square foot transfer building for the purpose of unloading and transferring construction and demolition waste to a landfill or other authorized solid waste disposal area. Waste accepted at the proposed Processing and Transfer Facility will be limited to only construction and demolition waste. All on-site construction and demolition waste will be contained inside the building or a tarped trailer prior to transfer. The location of the 11.05-acre legal parcel on which the transfer building will be constructed is shown on the map below. EGLE may hold a public hearing in the vicinity of the proposed disposal area if a request for a hearing is submitted in writing by the applicant or a municipality, or if a petition containing a number of signatures equaling at least 10 percent of the registered voters of the municipality where the landfill is located who voted in the last gubernatorial election is submitted to EGLE. Such a petition shall be validated by the Clerk of Waterford Township. Requests for public hearings must be submitted to EGLE by July 18, 2026. The application package may be reviewed at EGLE’s Warren District Office (address below) by scheduling an appointment with the secretary (please call 586-606-2344). Copies of the application documents may be ordered for the cost of reproduction and mailing. Written comments directed to the email address below will be accepted until 5:00 p.m., 45 days after the publication of this notice. Comments would also be accepted at a public hearing, if one is requested.
