BRUCE TOWNSHIP BOARD OF TRUSTEES NOTICE OF ADOPTION Bruce Township Zoning Ordinance Ordinance 161-05-26 Notice is hereby given that the Bruce Township Board adopted an amendment to the Bruce Township Zoning Ordinance (Ordinance 161) at its regular meeting on Wednesday, July 25, 2026. ARTICLE 1. Amend Section 161-2.2 to add the following definitions for indoor recreation and instructional uses and physical fitness establishments: Indoor Recreation or Instructional Use means an establishment located entirely indoors that provides space for recreational activities, including sports courts, obstacle courses, jungle gyms, skateboard or bicycle parks, laser tag, paintball, ranged target sports, batting cages, trampoline parks, and similar uses, or instructional activities such as gymnastics, dance, cheerleading, martial arts, or other sports classes. This does not include event facilities, bowling alleys, dance halls, or other uses listed separately in this ordinance. Physical Fitness Establishment means an establishment that provides exercise facilities such as running, jogging, yoga, aerobics, weight lifting, court sports, and swimming, and may include locker rooms, showers, massage rooms, saunas and related accessory uses. Also known as gyms or health clubs. ARTICLE 2. Amend Section 161-3.1.13. B (Permitted Uses of the C-2 District) to add the following item: 28. Indoor Recreation or Instructional Uses 5,000 square feet or less; Amend Section 161-3.1.13.C (Special Land Uses of the C-2 District) to add the following item: 28. Indoor Recreation or Instructional Uses over 5,000 square feet. ARTICLE 3. Amend Section 161-3.1.14. B (Permitted Uses of the C-3 District) to add the following item: 44. Indoor Recreation or Instructional Uses 5,000 square feet or less. ARTICLE 4. Amend Section 161-3.1.14.C (Special Land Uses of the C-3 District) to add the following item: 44. Indoor Recreation or Instructional Uses over 5,000 square feet. ARTICLE 5. Amend Section 161-3.1.16. B (Permitted Uses of the LI-1 District) to add the following item: 8. Indoor Recreation or Instructional Uses 40,000 square feet or less. ARTICLE 6. Amend Section 161-3.1.16. B (Special Land Uses of the LI-1 District) to add the following item: 14. Indoor Recreation or Instructional Uses over 40,000 square feet. ARTICLE 7. REPEAL, EFFECTIVE DATE 1. 2. All regulatory provisions contained in other Township Ordinances which are inconsistent with the provisions of this Ordinance are hereby repealed. A complete copy of the amendments may be examined at Bruce Township Hall, 223 East Gates Street, Romeo, MI 48065, during the Township’s regular business hours, Monday through Thursday 8:30 am through 4:30 pm. This ordinance shall be effective seven days following publication. This notice is published pursuant to the requirements of the Michigan Zoning Enabling ACT, PA 110 of 2006, as amended.
