BRUCE TOWNSHIP BOARD OF TRUSTEES NOTICE OF ADOPTION Bruce Township Board Ordinance 161-03-26 Notice is hereby given that the Bruce Township Board adopted an amendment to the Bruce Township Zoning Ordinance (ordinance 161) at its regular meeting of Wednesday, May 20, 2026. The new section 161-3.18 reads: A. Findings. The Township finds that in Rollingwood Homeowners Corp v City of Flint, the Michigan Supreme Court upheld the imposition of a reasonable and short moratorium enacted by resolution, and therefore that the Township may also enact a moratorium by resolution when a particular issue is actively under study. B. Moratorium by Resolution. The Township Board, by resolution, may impose a temporary moratorium upon the review or issuance of any and all applications, permits, rezoning, licenses, or approvals for special or other land uses in the Township if the Township Board desires to review, enact, or amend provisions of the master plan or zoning ordinance to regulate existing or emerging land uses that may impact the health, safety or welfare of township residents or property. C. Purpose and Findings. The resolution must state the purpose of the moratorium and include findings of the Township Board in support of the moratorium. D. Length of Moratorium. Any resolution adopted pursuant to this Section must specify the length of the moratorium which may not exceed six (6) months. The resolution may provide for one (1) extension of the moratorium, by resolution, for up to six (6) months. E. Notice. Notice of the resolution must be published within seven (7) days of its adoption. The notice must include the following: 1. A summary of the resolution’s effect. 2. The length of the moratorium and whether an extension is possible. 3. Where the public may inspect the resolution enacting the moratorium. A complete copy of the amendments may be examined at Bruce Township Hall, 223 East Gates Street, Romeo, MI 48065, during the Township’s regular business hours, Monday through Thursday 8:30am through 4:30pm. Therese ordinances shall be effective seven days following publication. This notice is published pursuant to the requirements of the Michigan Zoning enabling Act, PA 110 of 2006, as amended.
