NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING ON POLICE AND FIRE SPECIAL ASSESSMENT CHARTER TOWNSHIP OF WATERFORD OAKLAND COUNTY, MICHIGAN TO: OWNERS AND PARTIES WITH INTERESTS IN PROPERTY THAT MAY BE SPECIALLY ASSESSED IN THE CHARTER TOWNSHIP OF WATERFORD, OAKLAND COUNTY, MICHIGAN. PLEASE TAKE NOTICE that on Monday, August 25, 2025, during its regular meeting that begins at 6:00 PM, in the Auditorium of the Township Hall at 5200 Civic Center Drive, Waterford, Michigan 48329, the Charter Township of Waterford Board of Trustees will hold a public hearing regarding the Police and Fire Special Assessment levy of up to 2.95 mills approved by the voters on August 7, 2018, on the following: 1. An estimate of the costs and expenses to operate, maintain, and equip the Township Police and Fire Departments for the 2026 calendar/budget year, with that estimate to be on file with the Township Clerk’s office and available for public inspection on or before August 15, 2025. 2. The amount of the authorized 2.95 mill special assessment to be levied on the December 2025 Tax Bills against real property that is not exempt from property taxes in the Township-wide Special Assessment District, to provide funding to defray the costs and expenses of equipping, maintaining, and operating the Police and Fire Departments in the 2026 calendar/budget year. On this issue, the Township Board of Trustees is proposing a levy of 2.52 mills. 3. The distribution of the special assessment the Township Board of Trustees determines to levy on the December 2025 Tax Bills. PLEASE TAKE FURTHER NOTICE that although the Township does not believe there is a right to appeal a special assessment levy established by the Board of Trustees at or below the 2.95 mills approved by the voters, if there was a right to appeal, appearance and protest at the public hearing is required in order to appeal the amount of any special assessment to the State Tax Tribunal. An owner or party in interest or their agent may appear in person at the hearing to protest the special assessment or may file their appearance or protest by letter received by the Township Clerk’s office at or before that public hearing.
