LEGAL NOTICE Lake Improvement Board for Watkins Lake Township of Waterford, Oakland County, Michigan HEARING OF ASSESSMENT Notice is hereby given that the Lake Improvement Board for Watkins Lake in the Township of Waterford, County of Oakland, will meet in the Oakland County Water Resources Commissioner’s Office , Lower Level Cafeteria, located at One Public Works Drive, Waterford, Michigan 48328 at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday evening, March 10, 2026, to review, to hear any objections to, and to confirm a special assessment roll for the purpose of implementing (2) projects for Watkins Lake. The first project is the purchase of a Mechanical Weed Harvester. The total assessment is estimated at $176,447 and the amount per property is a one-time cost of $614.80 payable on the July 2026 Tax Bill. The second project is the implementation of an Aquatic Weed Control Program for the years 2026, 2027 and 2028. The total 3-year annual assessment is estimated at $200,190 and the amount per property is $300.00 due annually and payable on the December Tax Bill for 2027, 2028 and 2029. The special assessment roll will be on file at the Waterford Township Offices for public examination. Any person may appeal and be heard at the said Hearing, which is called pursuant to the provisions of Section 30913 of Part 309 of Public Acts No. 59 of 1995. Act 186 of the Public Acts of Michigan, 1973, as amended, provides that the special assessment must be protested at the Hearing held for the purpose of confirming the Special Assessment Roll before the Michigan Tax Tribunal may acquire jurisdiction of any special assessment dispute. Appearance and protest of the special assessment at the time and place of review is required in order to appeal the amount of the special assessments to the Michigan Tax Tribunal. An owner of or party in interest in property to be assessed, or his or her agent, may appear in person to protest the special assessment, or may protest the special assessment by letter filed with the Oakland County Water Resources Commissioner’s Office, Attention: Mr. Craig Tiell, C/O Lake Improvement Board for Watkins Lake, One Public Works Drive, Building 95 West, Waterford, Michigan 48328-1907 at or prior to the time of review, in which case personal appearance is not required. If the special assessment is protested as provided above, the owner or any party having an interest in the real property may file a written appeal of the special assessment with the Michigan Tax Tribunal within 30 days after the confirmation of the Special Assessment Roll has been published in a newspaper of general circulation.
