CHARTER TOWNSHIP OF UNION BLIGHT CONTROL ORDINANCE NUMBER 25-03 Notice is hereby given that the Charter Township of Union Board of Trustees adopted a new Blight Control Ordinance Number 25-03 during their regular meeting on August 27, 2025. The first and second readings of the proposed ordinance were held in the Township Hall Board Room during regular Board of Trustees meetings on 8/13/2025 and 8/27/2025. Following the first reading, an ordinance summary and notice of the date, time, and place of the second reading was published in The Morning Sun newspaper and posted at the Township Hall as required by the Charter Township Act, Public Act 359 of 1947, as amended (MCL 42.1 et seq.). A true copy of the adopted ordinance may be inspected or obtained upon request during business hours at the Charter Township of Union office, 2010 South Lincoln Road, Mt. Pleasant, MI 48858, or on the Township’s website at http://www.uniontownshipmi.com/. The following is an ordinance summary: Section 1 (Title) establishes the title of this Ordinance. Section 2 (Purpose) confirms purpose to prevent, reduce or eliminate blight in the Township. Section 3 (International Property Maintenance Code) adopts by reference the current edition of the International Property Maintenance Code. Section 4 (Determinations of Blight and Causes of Blight) identifies the causes of blight or blighting factors, including specified uses, structures, conditions, and activities. Section 5 (General Prohibitions) establishes blight and graffiti-related violations. Section 6 (Violations and Penalties) establishes penalties for violations, including a municipal civil infraction and other remedies available to correct, remedy or abate non-compliance. Section 7 (Minimum Standards) confirms that this Ordinance shall not be construed to prevent enforcement of other codes or laws that prescribe property maintenance standards. Section 8 (Definitions) confirms how terms used in this Ordinance are defined. Section 9 (Severability) confirms that Ordinance elements are severable as provided by law. Section 10 (Repeal) addresses repeal of other ordinances or parts thereof that conflict with provisions of this Ordinance. Section 11 (Publication) confirms that state law publication requirements will be met. Section 12 (Effective Date) establishes the effective date of this Ordinance, based on adoption and publication requirements.
