CHARTER TOWNSHIP OF COMMERCE 2009 TOWNSHIP DRIVE COMMERCE TOWNSHIP, MI 48390 PUBLIC NOTICE OF NOXIOUS WEED & GRASS CONTROL Notice is hereby given to all owners and occupants of land in the Charter Township of Commerce, Oakland County, Michigan, that noxious weeds and grass in excess of eight (8) inches in height are prohibited per Chapter 12 and Chapter 18 of the Charter Township of Commerce Code of Ordinances a copy of which can be found on the Township’s website at https://commercetwp.com or at the Township Clerk’s Office. Owners of land on which noxious weeds and grasses in excess of eight (8) inches of height are found growing must destroy the weeds before they reach a seed bearing age to prevent their regrowth and must cut grass before it reaches eight (8) inches in height. If weeds, including grass, are not cut by May 1 of each year, the Township will enter the property and mechanically cut the weeds as many times as may be necessary. The owner will be charged for all expenses incurred by the Township. Expenses incurred by the Township shall be paid by the owner of the land within thirty (30) days of being billed and the Township shall have a lien against the property for the amount of the expense until paid. In addition, refusal to destroy noxious weeds is a municipal civil infraction punishable by a civil fine. Property in excess of two and one-half (2.5) acres is exempt from these requirements.
