AMEMNDMENT TO ORDINANCE 20.120 SUMMARY FOR PUBLICATION The City of Mount Clemens has adopted an ordinance to prohibit the sale of kratom products to individuals under the age of twenty-one (21) years and provide for penalties, severability and to repeal all ordinances in conflict therewith. Kratom is a psychoactive substance that is currently legal but largely unregulated under Michigan law, with no statewide age restrictions, licensing requirements, or safety standards in effect. In the absence of enacted state legislation, the city finds it necessary to act within its police powers to protect youth and reduce exposure to unregulated kratom products.
