CHARTER TOWNSHIP OF ROYAL OAK OAKLAND COUNTY, MICHIGAN NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING 2026 GARBAGE COLLECTION AND DISPOSAL SPECIAL ASSESSMENT ROLL PLEASE TAKE NOTICE, that on December 31, 2021, the Charter Township of Royal Oak Township Board adopted a resolution creating the Garbage Collection and Disposal Special Assessment District to annually defray the costs and expenses of garbage collection and disposal services, provided to all residentially improved lots and parcels located within the Township, by special assessment against such properties. The amount to defray the cost and expenses for 2026 is estimated to be $168,651.00. PLEASE TAKE FURTHER NOTICE that the Township Board will hold a public hearing on Thursday, November 13, 2025 at 5:55 p.m. or soon thereafter at the Township Hall, 21131 Garden Lane, Gymnasium, Ferndale, MI 48220, to review and hear any objections regarding the amount proposed to defray the 2026 cost and expenses and/or the special assessment roll which spreads the 2026 cost and expenses on all residentially improved lots and parcels located within the Township, pursuant to Act 188 of the Public Acts of Michigan of 1954, as amended. The special assessments on the roll are to be billed with the December 1, 2025 winter tax bill. PLEASE TAKE FURTHER NOTICE that the amount proposed to be assessed for garbage collection and disposal services on each residentially improved lot and parcel within the Township will be $318.81 PLEASE TAKE FURTHER NOTICE that the estimated cost and expenses and the proposed special assessment roll may be inspected at the office of the Township Clerk, 21131 Garden Lane, Room 202, Ferndale, MI 48220 within the Township on regular business days of such office and may also be inspected at the public hearing. PLEASE TAKE FURTHER NOTICE that at the public hearing, the Township Board will review said proposed cost and expenses and proposed special assessment roll and any comments or objections thereto which may be made or filed with the Board at, or prior to, the time of said public hearing, and will consider any revisions, amendments or changes to said cost and expenses and proposed special assessment roll. Appearance and protest at this public hearing is required in order to appeal the amount of the proposed special assessment to the Michigan Tax Tribunal. An owner or party in interest or his or her agent may appear in person at this hearing to protest the special assessment, or shall be permitted to file his or her appearance to protest by letter received at or before the public hearing. If such letter of protest is filed, personal appearance of the person protesting will not be required. An owner or person having an interest in the real property being assessed, who has appeared at the hearing in the manner hereinbefore indicated, may file a written appeal of his or her or its special assessment with the Michigan Tax Tribunal within a maximum of thirty (30) days after confirmation of the special assessment roll by the Township Board. The Charter Township of Royal Oak will provide necessary, reasonable auxiliary aids and services such as signers for the hearing impaired and audio tapes of printed material being considered at the meeting to individuals with disabilities at the meeting upon three (3) days notice to the Township Manager.
